Early Works
34cm x 24 cm, Watercolour
1999
First painting I ever did but learned a lot from it. Notice how the fruit looks like it is floating in the bowl!!!
40cm x 30cm, watercolour
1999
Second painting- I forgot to paint the shadows of the leaves on the pot
40cm x 30cm, watercolour
2001
This painting was done from a photograph by blocking in the bench with masking fluid, painting in the background and splattering the paint from the brush to achieve the random effect on the leaves. the bench was painting last. I think it gives to painting a fresh feel.
30cm x 40 cm, watercolour

I like how the light changed across the flower going from light pink to dark purple
37cm x 25cm, pastel on paper
2002
An early pastel drawing painted from a photograph
35cm x 26 cm, Pastel on paper
2004
First pastel painting! I did this fom a photo at one of Vavara's classes to get a fell for pastel. Because you can't mix the colours before painting, this medium gives you a good understanding of what colours go together well at achieve highlights and tone.
40cm x 30 cm, watercolour
2002
Study for complimentary colours. Very few colours were used to paint this.
23cm x 28cm, oil on board
2005
First oil painting! I used to go to a painting class run by Vavara Neiman where there was lots of props to paint, including very realistic looking plastic fruit. I was nervous about painting in oils but after this one I saw the great versatility of this medium and have never looked back.
29cm x 25 cm, oil on board
2005
This was the second oil painting I did and showed me the way that light effects in a painting are often best seen when not much detail is shown. Also often a painting needs a focus to bring life to it, like the walkers on the path, otherwise it looks a bit flat
40cm x 25cm, watercolour
2003
This was a still life study to tray and capture the lightness of the tissue with the solidity of the pears. I did this by blocking out the tissue paper with masking fluid and painting the rest of the picture first. the result is that the edges of the tissue paper look to harsh. Nowadays, I would not block out with masking fluid and trust myself to maintain the whiteness and softness of the tissue paper by blending the background wash more subtly.
30cm x 20 cm, watercolour on printer paper
1999
I did this one morning whilst in Italy using 'hobby' paints from a children's toy shop and a piece of printer paper. Although the drying time was very short, I managed to achieve some depth to the painting.
40cm x 30cm, watercolour
2002
Not sure what to say about this one! It started out as a study of light from the sky reflecting on the water_ might have been better off without the boat!
59cm x 42cm, watercolour
2002
This was a quick painting which managed to retain the freshness and lovliness of the wonderful sunflower
